I remember people complaining about the pirate-speak when it was first coming out in English, but I'm convinced that if there was pirate-speak in Japanese, Oda would be using it. (I mean, look at all the other weird speech patterns.) Still, I haven't read any of OP in English, so it's hard for me to judge whether it really is awful or not.
