Day 9 Saddest anime scene

A lot of the other ones are hard, but this one? No competition.

Fushigi Yuugi, Episode 33. If you've seen FY, you know why. (Is there any point in trying to avoid spoilers in this meme?)

Link is a MAJOR SPOILER. (I actually found the scene that immediately precedes this one even sadder ("Open your eyes!"), but couldn't find a subtitled version on youtube -- and the dubbed version was just painful to watch in a whole different way.)

Agreed.

No arguments here.

I'm (morbidly?) curious to see if anyone can come up with anything sadder than this.

Ugh, I totally think it's possible....but that doesn't mean I want to try.

I did a cursory internet search for "saddest anime scene" and was surprised to find that relatively few people mentioned it, at least in the threads I was looking at. Maybe it's a generational thing?

A lot of people mentioned the big character deaths in Trigun, FMA and Cowboy Bebop. And the Kenshin OVAs (which don't exist in my head canon, so they are not allowed to be sad). And of course there's Grave of the Fireflies, which I flat-out refuse to watch.

Yeah, not going to lie; Grave of the Fireflies is pretty much the saddest thing ever =/ I was conned into watching it once, and I don't even want to know how many tissues I ran through.

Though, I've never made it that far into FY for comparison - I never made it past the whole Yui nonsense.

Maybe it's a generational thing?

That would be my guess. Certainly a lot of my feelings for that show are colored by nostalgia goggles.

Grave of the Fireflies, which I flat-out refuse to watch.

Ugh, same.

Did you hear that? Characters die in FMA.

It's OK, we can still slash them as long as they're not married.

For the record, I decided to translate what the panda was writing to see if you were upset with me. And it took me 12 minutes. And then I realized you had provided the romanization in the tag.

Also, pah! Neither canon nor common decency will stand between me and slashing things characters things.

<-- shameless thing-slashing

Dude, why would I be upset with you? You're the one who should be upset with ME for spoiling FMA for you. I mean, assuming you hold grudges for five years.

(It's been more than five years, hasn't it. I refuse to check a calendar and acknowledge this fact.)

ETA: that arrow is totally not pointing at my icon. However, I shall accept the limits of text-based arrows and pretend that it is.

I think it's largely generational. Some kids watching FMA probably weren't around for FY. Also, the newer the show sometimes the fresher the wound.

And can I admit something? I mean, this is so dumb, because, you know, I've watched the whole of every FY thing like 6 times, plus the manga of course, and I was SUPER MEGA OMG OBSESSED with it, but I kind of... forgot they died. I mean, of course if I thought about it, I'd remember, but like.. I know what happened after so at first I was like, "Wait, Nuriko died...? OMG WTF BRAIN!?" (It's kind of like knowing the Senshi die, because you know they come back to life with the moon crystal? I DON'T KNOW, I'M STUPID, LEAVE ME ALONE.)

Also? FMA ... yeah, that's a big ACK. (But is it EVER easy when characters you like die? I mean, it's always sad.)

I was vaguely and semi-thinking of Grave of the Fireflies (among other things) when I posted my comment above to W_10_00. I didn't mention it specifically though because I haven't seen it myself. And I won't watch it either. I have movies I know will be kind of sad, and I'm prepared for those, but not Grave of the Fireflies.

Stop making me want to watch things I've already watched (A LOT) - I have a backlog for banana's sake!(Actually, if I don't click on the videos, I can probably keep myself from wanting to re-watch right!now! - out of sight, out of mind?)

I feel like my answer to saddest will seem sooooooooper lame in comparison. (Also, I feel like a lot of my answers are going to one particular show that unevenly skews my fandom to look like it's something that it isn't. Hey can I be more vague?) I feel like I'm ashamed to say answer this one, even among friends, lol?
