Days 18 & 19

Man, it is hard to keep up with this when we're having what is without doubt the most gorgeous run of weather EVER at the beach...

Day 18 - Something moe

It took me long enough to find out what moe even meant. How do I answer this question?

However, I think this is stereotypical enough to count:

Kyouya from Ouran High School Host Club (which I finally just got around to ordering from RightStuf, yay Funimation sale). Glasses on guys are just never bad. (Speaking of which, I have gotta figure out where to fit Card Captor Sakura in this meme somewhere... oh wait, I already had that planned.)

Day 19 - Mandatory swimsuit post

Because I just saw a bit of this anime on YouTube for the first time after I don't know how many years of fandom:

Surprising reflections on Urusei Yatsura:

I never bothered to seek this one out because nothing I heard about it sounded attractive. Love triangle? Two girls fighting over a guy who's a worthless lech? Excessive display of tiger skin bikinis?

The surprise discovery is that this anime is both insane and hilarious. It's pure comedy; I don't know why anyone would want to watch it as a romance or as the source of a pin-up girl (but then maybe my pin-up tastes just don't run that way). However, those for whom "This is $*&%^ insane!" is not a compliment should probably stay away.

Also, you really don't want to know what it would cost to buy the whole thing licensed on the used market (yes, I have been checking). Wonder if this will ever see a re-release?

Ooh, thank you for the heads up! I went looking on Amazon to see if it had been repacked into box sets, and found nothing but weird random singles, so I thought Animeigo was long gone (along with so many other good companies). I didn't think to check TRSI (I'm still getting into the habit of making it my default search in place of Amazon, but clearly I should).

Hmmm-mmm, it looks like between TRSI and a few singles on Amazon I could get all the discs for a pretty cheap per-disk price (except 50, wouldn't you know it, which is apparently super-rare). It would still be like $400, but I might spring for it if I can make it work with the Japan budget.

I sure wish it had been offered in more compact box set form (50 individual DVD cases, yikes!), but Animeigo does such high-quality stuff, it might be worth it even if it gets re-licensed and released in a cheaper form later.

Anyway, thanks!

Oooh, scratch that -- Animeigo still has individual copies of all the disks on their website (assuming they're still in stock, I guess). It would still be worth going with the ones in stock at TRSI for my anime club discount, but... I have a feeling I'm going to end up getting this. ^__^

I didn't see your 2nd comment in my email but now I do: I was JUST about to go to their website and check for you, LOL. Glad you already thought of it. My comment above stands though - don't wait if you're interested; they didn't make many. (Then someday we can watch it all together!)

I really don't think it's going to get re-licensed. A show THAT long and THAT old? In this market? No way. Animego struggled towards the end, I believe, to get it done. I remember them them talking about bad financial support or something, but they were committed to finishing it because they're Animego. XD But also, that manga failed 2x in the US, so I don't think this is a property that will show up again in some cheap boxset. If you are interested, I really believe this is the time to do it. Too bad about #50, but it might turn up somewhere. I could be mistaken, but I thought Animego did offer boxes/bundles thru their own site while they were releasing, but of course this is foggy memory at best and it's been many years.

PS: Obvs, I survived day 1 of the con. Granted, we left early, but still.
